Ways to Overcome  Secondhand Stress

To prevent stress from triggering our ability to survive in the workplace, we must find ways to separate our stress from our job duties. It is impossib                                                                                         Here are some tips to resist the stress of others and maintain our sanity in the workplace.

1. Identify the source of the stress.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        2. Talk to the person about how their behavior is affecting you.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    3. Separate yourself from the person. Emotional distancing yourself from the individual is an act of self care and lessens your chances of becoming burned out.

4. Don’t take the behavior of others personally.

Stop mirroring others’ negative emotions. When others exhibit negative emotions, often our first reaction is to copy that                                                                                                                                            Diffuse this behaviour by responding with positive body language and comments and by changing the subject. Don’t feed the beast!

3. Shift your mood.

Moods can change in an instant. We have the ability to shift our negative emotions of secondhand stress by shifting our attention to positive actions. Music is an excellent way to quickly uplift your mood and decrease your stress.
